Introducing Rebellion PAC
I am thrilled to finally be able to announce what I’ve been working on. I’ve accepted a position as Executive Director of Rebellion PAC, a progressive Super PAC with the resources and relentlessness needed to lead progressives to victory.
I’m proud to have started Rebellion PAC with Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks. Between the two of us, we raised about 2 million dollars in our congressional runs. We’re building a multi-million dollar organization with the resources to run TV ads, get voters to the polls and deliver real-world results.
When I think of today’s Democratic party, I think of the Marquess of Queensberry rules that were developed for boxing in 1865. They attempted to turn a violent and brutal sport into a more palatable mainstream pastime.
Why do Democrats struggle to win elections, even when their policies have popular support? Because they’re trying to win elections with Marquess of Queensberry rules, while Republicans just want to win. Anyone who has struggled to pay the rent can tell you politics isn’t a sport — it’s a free-for-all to decide who gets what in America.
Rebellion PAC suffers no such illusions. Our mission is to speak honestly and directly to voters about the existential threats to their health, their safety and their country. And unlike the Republicans, we don’t need scare tactics, junk science, or “alternative facts,” because the truth is actually on our side.
That’s where Cenk Uygur comes in. Cenk’s video content has garnered over 17 billion views. Many races today are won with a few thousand votes. We know that we can make a difference by creating the hard-hitting, truth-based ads that mainstream Democrats can’t, don’t, or won’t.
Our mission goes beyond 2020, too. Running for congress, I’ve seen a clear pattern: progressives have the right policies, but establishment Democrats have the resources. Our goal is to supply progressive candidates with the resources they need at the federal, state and local level.
This is the structure of Rebellion PAC. Cenk is chairman of our executive board, and is building a leadership team across the progressive spectrum that will include Bernie supporters, Warren supporters, wage inequality advocates, racial justice advocates, LGBTQ+ advocates, reproductive justice advocates and women’s rights advocates. I am the Executive Director, and run day-to-day operations including fundraising, ad development, candidate support and voter-registration efforts.
Many progressives are skeptical of Super PACs, and for good reason. Legally, they can raise unlimited money and spend unlimited money. That’s why we’ve developed an open source set of principles called the “Clean PAC.” We will only accept the same amount of money you can donate to a federal candidate, and we don’t accept corporate money. Our mission is to get candidates elected that will publicly finance elections and get money out of politics, making what we do unnecessary.
For too long, the Democratic Party has expected progressives to join their fight without addressing the issues that we care about. That’s about to change. I hope you’ll lend us your support today.
